We built Jackson House because we realized there was a critical gap in our healthcare system and many individuals with mental illnesses and substance abuse problems were struggling because of it. While there are many outpatient treatment options and locked, inpatient facilities there was nothing in the middle. Nothing to help people who needed around the clock care but wanted to receive treatment voluntarily, on their own terms. Jackson House is different. We provide clients with the level of care they need in a welcoming environment. When you walk through our doors, we will meet you wherever you’re at and help you on your journey toward feeling better.
Mental Health Resolutions for 2024

There’s no greater time for change than the new year. If you’ve been feeling stuck on your mental health journey, 2024 could be the perfect time for a fresh start and a clean slate. There are many steps you can take to help you feel happier, healthier, and more inspired by life.
People make resolutions in countless areas of their lives, but all too often, mental health resolutions are overlooked. Developing mental health resolutions for 2024 is a great way to hold yourself accountable and guide your decision-making. If you’re unsure what you’d like your mental health resolutions to be in 2024, consider if the following options could be beneficial for you.
Be More Mindful
Being more mindful can have a positive impact on your mental health and well-being. These simple practices can empower you to reclaim control of your life, savor every moment, and find peace amidst the hustle and bustle of daily existence.
Remove yourself from stressful situations
Some stressful situations are impossible to escape, but believe it or not, you have the ability to remove yourself from certain situations that don’t serve you. In chaotic, crowded, or toxic environments, you may start to feel overstimulated or out of control. When this happens, it’s best to take a step away for a moment until your mind and body return to a calmer state. You may end up deciding to permanently remove yourself from certain situations that cause you stress, and that’s okay, too.
Practice breathing exercises
Breathing exercises can be surprisingly effective when it comes to improving your mental health, as they have proven to be a wonderful method of relaxation. When you focus solely on breathing, you can be fully present. There’s no space to think or worry about anything else. Whether you’re out in public or in the comfort of your own home, there are many different breathing exercises you can try when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Choose whichever exercises best suit your lifestyle.
Take regular scenic walks
When it comes to being more mindful, don’t underestimate the power of the sun and fresh air. Taking scenic walks and getting out and about in nature is nourishing for the mind and soul. It allows you to momentarily disconnect from your troubles and pay attention to your surroundings. Even if you live in an urban area, you can still find a route that allows you to see a little bit of green and sky.
Practice Meditation Each Week
Meditation is a mindfulness practice that helps clear your mind and help you reach a state of inner peace and tranquility.
Meditating is an excellent way to improve your mental health, especially when it’s practiced regularly. Look at your schedule and identify a regular time during which you can meditate. You don’t need a lot of time; even a few minutes of quiet reflection can greatly benefit your mental health.
Schedule Self-Care Days
Taking time for self-care can be extremely difficult, especially if you are responsible for another person’s care. However, setting aside time to relax and treat yourself can be instrumental in improving your overall mental health.
Self-care looks different for everyone. It might involve pampering yourself, moving your body, engaging in a hobby, or watching television. No matter what you like to do, it’s important to make time for it.
Self-care days can take place over the holidays or on the weekends, but depending on your circumstances, you may also be able to set aside time to enjoy yourself during the week. Even if you work full-time or have used all your time off, you can designate certain hours of the morning or evening to participate in mindful activities that bring you joy.
Seek Counseling
One of the most effective methods for improving your mental health is seeking counseling. Some people choose not to pursue counseling because of the stigma, but it can be hugely beneficial to your overall wellness if you’re struggling.
Therapists not only listen, but they provide expert advice and a wealth of strategies to help you navigate difficult or complicated situations. They allow for safe expression that can lead to life-changing understanding.
