Post-election mental health tips with Dr. Bruce Figuered

After one of the closest and most politically charged election cycles of our lifetime, many are feeling big emotions. Dr. Bruce Figuered recognizes that politicians and pundits play on fear and hyperbole to motivate voters to choose their side, but this can leave people scared and anxious if their candidate isn't elected.
So, what can you do with all of the residual anxiety and stress?
  • Unplug and disconnect: Take a walk, designate screen-free time, or engage in exercise or a hobby.
  • Find common ground: When spending time with friends or family who hold different political beliefs, steer the conversation toward mutual interests.
  • Identify reality: remember that your thoughts are not always reality. Instead of catastrophizing or spiraling, think about the things that you can control, like joining a like-minded organization or engaging with your community.
