Ongoing Support: How Aftercare Services Work

While residential treatment is often a crucial step toward mental wellness, it is not the end of your journey. After your treatment comes to a close, it is time to apply your newly acquired knowledge and coping mechanisms to your daily life. It may take individuals some time to adjust as they work to keep up the progress they have made while learning how to settle into a different routine. That’s where aftercare comes in.

At Jackson House, our aftercare services are designed to make the transition from residential care back to life outside of the center as seamless and stress-free as possible. We are here to support you every step of the way as you continue on your journey toward long-term recovery.

Why Does Aftercare Matter?

Transitioning into a new routine can be overwhelming at first as clients work through challenges and learn what their life is going to look like moving forward. Aftercare services help clients to feel supported as they further build on positive behaviors learned in treatment. Aftercare is one way that can support individuals in developing a sense of trust in themselves and in what they have learned in treatment.

At Jackson House, we prioritize long-term assistance as you work toward long-term recovery, and our aftercare services can play a crucial role in making a meaningful and lasting change.

As you adapt to your new lifestyle, aftercare offerings are in place to help you apply what you have learned during treatment in your day-to-day life. This can help you stop negative behaviors from reemerging over time and apply coping strategies you have learned when problems arise.

Aftercare at Jackson House

Our aftercare services begin before your final day of treatment. We help ensure that you have a safe place to live, a plan in place for managing difficult situations and triggers, and access to additional resources you may need before you leave. This can help increase your confidence in your ability to face challenges as you enter the next stage of your journey.

We stay in touch for the first 60 days following residential treatment, offering regular check-ins to see how individuals are feeling and progressing.

Our aftercare also includes the opportunity to participate in our alumni group, which gathers regularly. The group meets for such as bonfires, sporting events, and Zoom catch-ups. You can also access volunteering opportunities through the group, putting you in a position to help others in a similar situation to your own. Examples of service offered by the group include the organization of a clothing drive, assembling toiletry kits, and participating in community clean-up.

A calendar of alumni group events is available on the Aftercare Services webpage

By remaining an active part of our community, you will also continue to benefit from peer support from people who have an understanding of what you have been through. This can be incredibly uplifting and remind you that you are not alone on the path to healing.

Action Plans and New Routines

We create individualized action plans for our clients that outline their new routines and specific goals. These goals will be different and carefully personalized for each client, but could include milestones such as returning to work, independent living, or participating in hobbies.

We focus on introducing small, measurable changes to your routine that will have long-term benefits for your health and happiness. Over time, tasks that once felt impossible can become part of your daily experiences. For example, we might encourage making lifestyle changes such as incorporating self-care into your mornings, eating healthily, or setting exercise goals.

Community and Resources

Completing a treatment program at Jackson House means becoming part of an engaged community where you will receive support every step of the way. We are interested in your good days and your bad days, and are always on hand to help identify your next steps.

We encourage you to join our alumni group, where you can participate in weekly meetings and events. You can also access volunteering opportunities through this group, putting you in a position to help others in a similar situation to your own.

Jackson House

Jackson House

We built Jackson House because we realized there was a critical gap in our healthcare system and many individuals with mental illnesses and substance abuse problems were struggling because of it. While there are many outpatient treatment options and locked, inpatient facilities there was nothing in the middle. Nothing to help people who needed around the clock care but wanted to receive treatment voluntarily, on their own terms. Jackson House is different. We provide clients with the level of care they need in a welcoming environment. When you walk through our doors, we will meet you wherever you’re at and help you on your journey toward feeling better.
