Have you or someone you love experienced depression during the last year?
We Treat Depression
Depression can make it hard for you to function and continue doing the things you love. Depression is a serious mental illness that persist for weeks if not longer. It is a disease and not a feeling you can easily change. Jackson House has programs that can treat your depression, help you return to a more fulfilling life and feel better again.
According to the World Health Organization, 294 million people suffer from depression. Jackson House gives you hope.
The National Institute of Mental Health estimates 17.3 million adults in the U.S. experienced a major depressive episode at some point during the past year. When people are depressed, they can lose interest in daily activities, experience serious feelings of sadness along with trouble with sleeping, concentration, eating, energy and their self-worth. Receiving proper treatment allows you to return to work, enjoy time with loved ones and restore your will to live.
Do I have Depression?
Depression is different than feeling sad. It is normal to feel emotional reactions in response to life events. However, the feelings of depression are much more severe, persist for a longer period of time and can be debilitating. The first step in seeking treatment is to recognize the signs and symptoms of depression. This information can make it easier to reach out to a professional for help.
Are you depressed? Take our quiz.
Common symptoms of depression can include:
- A strong and persistent feeling of hopelessness
- Lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed
- Changes in sleep patterns (either more sleep or sudden insomnia)
- Constantly feeling nervous or anxious
- Drastic mood swings
- Alterations in normal eating patterns
Depression can be caused by one or multiple factors such as major life changes, a recent loss, starting a new job, a personal breakup, financial troubles, changes in hormones, a long-term illness, medication changes or other medical problems. Depression can also run in families so your risk factor may be higher if other relatives have been diagnosed with the disease.

Depression Treatment at Jackson House
When you’re feeling depressed, it can seem like there is no hope. However, even the most serious forms of depression are treatable. At Jackson House, we can help you find joy again and bring the spark back to your life. We customize our depression treatment programs to meet the needs of each of our clients. Our programs include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
This form of therapy targets your thoughts and actions. Your thoughts play a large role in how you feel. If your thought patterns are continually negative, it can start to impact your sense of self-worth. Sometimes the skills we’ve developed to respond to situations are not healthy or productive and can leave us feeling depressed. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you and your therapist will work to identify your current thought patterns and behavioral responses that might be contributing to your depression. Together, you will work to develop new thought patterns and coping methods.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy
Dialectical Behavior Therapy helps clients develop new skills to deal with the stress of everyday life. This type of therapy can have a significant impact on your depression through learning new and tangible techniques to deal with your emotions, conflict and interpersonal relationships. Additionally, we help clients accept behaviors they may be uncomfortable with, instead of continually struggling against them. We’ve found this can make it easier to change your behavior, break away from the negative aspects of your life and develop new responses.
Medication Management
Many people who struggle with depression use medicine in conjunction with therapy to help them manage their illness. There are many antidepressants available today and sometimes it can take a while to find the right medication and dosage. At Jackson House, we work side by side with our clients to help them find the right medication for their lifestyle.
Stress Management
Leading a healthy lifestyle can make a big difference in fighting depression. You can improve your mental and physical health with a regular exercise routine, healthy food choices and consistent sleep schedule. Additionally, we work with our clients to develop habits to increase mindfulness, such as meditation and yoga.
