We built Jackson House because we realized there was a critical gap in our healthcare system and many individuals with mental illnesses and substance abuse problems were struggling because of it. While there are many outpatient treatment options and locked, inpatient facilities there was nothing in the middle. Nothing to help people who needed around the clock care but wanted to receive treatment voluntarily, on their own terms. Jackson House is different. We provide clients with the level of care they need in a welcoming environment. When you walk through our doors, we will meet you wherever you’re at and help you on your journey toward feeling better.

Mental Health & Self-Esteem
The relationship between mental health and self-esteem is a complex and interdependent one.
Self-esteem refers to an individual's overall sense of self-worth and personal value. It is a critical component of our mental health and can have a profound impact on various aspects of our lives, including our relationships, career, and personal happiness.
Having a healthy dose of self-esteem is a crucial part of our overall well-being and can significantly impact our mental health, relationships, and success in life. However, mental health problems, such as depression and anxiety, can have a negative impact on our self-esteem, making it harder for us to cope with the challenges life throws at us.
Think of it this way: someone struggling with depression may find it hard to find happiness in things they once loved, and they may feel worthless and hopeless. This can cause them to overlook their strengths and accomplishments, leading to even lower self-esteem. Low self-esteem can also make us feel inadequate, insecure, and negative about ourselves.
Unfortunately, many of us face low self-worth at some point in our lives, which can hinder our progress and prevent us from reaching our full potential.
The relationship between self-esteem and mental health is complex and reciprocal, with each having the ability to impact the other. Self-esteem is influenced by various external factors such as relationships, social experiences, and cultural norms. For example, individuals who have experienced trauma, abuse, or bullying may struggle with low self-worth, even if their mental health is otherwise good.
At the same time, low self-esteem can contribute to the development of mental health problems, while mental health challenges can also negatively impact an individual's self-esteem.
Understanding this interconnected relationship is crucial in addressing both self-esteem and mental health concerns.
Ways to Meaningfully Boost Your Self-Esteem
The good news is that with effort and the right support, self-esteem can be improved!
Here are some proven strategies for meaningfully boosting your self-worth and confidence:
- Prioritize self-care: Nurturing your physical, emotional, and mental health is critical to building and maintaining healthy self-esteem. This means taking care of yourself by eating well, getting enough sleep, engaging in physical activity, and doing things that will bring you joy. The truth is, when you show that you value and respect yourself, it reflects positively on your self-esteem.
- Surround yourself with positive people: The people you spend time with have a significant impact on your self-esteem. Seek out individuals who bring positivity into your life and who believe in you and encourage you. On the other hand, try to limit your time with people who are negative or critical.
- Set achievable goals: Setting and working towards goals can boost your confidence and self-esteem. Start small and gradually increase the difficulty as you gain confidence. Reaching each goal will give you a sense of accomplishment and pride, which can positively impact your self-esteem. However, it's important to set realistic goals, as repeatedly failing to reach them can have the opposite effect.
- Focus on your strengths: Everyone has unique abilities and strengths, and it's crucial to focus on these instead of your weaknesses. Embrace your strengths and try to incorporate them into your daily life. When you focus on what you do well, you'll feel more competent and confident, which will boost your self-esteem.
- Accept compliments graciously: When someone compliments you, don't dismiss it or put yourself down. Instead, graciously accept it and believe in it. When you learn to accept compliments, you'll feel more valued and appreciated, which can boost your self-esteem.
- Practice self-affirmation: Self-affirmations are powerful tools that can help you build a more positive self-image. Write down affirmations that reflect your values, strengths, and goals, and repeat them to yourself regularly. By internalizing these positive statements, you'll start to believe in them, which can significantly impact your self-esteem.
- Seek help from a professional: If you're struggling with low self-esteem, reaching out to a mental health professional can be a valuable step. They can provide support, guidance, and tools to help you improve your self-esteem and overall well-being. With their training and personalized approach, mental health professionals can help you develop strategies tailored to your individual needs.
Boosting your self-esteem is a journey, and it may take time, patience, and effort, but the rewards are well worth it.
By focusing on self-care, positive relationships, achievable goals, self-affirmations, and seeking help when needed, you can build a more positive self-image and feel more confident and empowered.
Remember, small steps can lead to big changes.
